The Assistant Lighthouse Keeper's cottage at Green Cape on the New South Wales coast, where I stayed with my family in 2009. This arrangement of veranda around two or more sides of a single storey house with a corrugated iron roof and sash windows is a very typical style for Australian houses, especially those built in the 19th and early 20th century. I should imagine that the solid looking picket fence is designed to keep the larger local wildlife out.
