Early Spider Orchids


Showing the backs of the flowers. You can see they are shaped more like an apron than a pocket.

The Early Spider Orchids (Fr. Ophrys araingées) are flowering in the orchard, so here is some pictures.

These are a particularly rich burgundy colour on the labellum (the lower petal), with no yellow border.

This one shows the shiny lilac 'landing strip' to give the bee pollinators somewhere to aim for.
