The Medieval Month of October

This panel depicting the month of October comes from a 12th century series of wall paintings of the months of the year in the church at Lignières en Touraine. The month is characterised by the annual task of gathering walnuts.

It's interesting to note that the name of the month is spelled à l'anglaise. At that time this part of France was under English domination!

I assume it's actually the Latin, but thanks for bringing that to my attention - I hadn't noticed.

I noticed it was in English, and assumed the same reason as you.

Is it possible to find pictures of the rest of these (though I read December and January had been destroyed)? I'd like to use them as inspiration for a series of ceramic tiles, a winter project I'm looking forward to starting. I looked on the church's website but only found descriptions of the images rather than pictures of them. Many Thanks!

We've got photos of all of them and would be happy to send them. Can you email me privately, then I can send them to your email? (click on the link with my name on the right side bar).
