Crimson Finch


The Crimson Finch Neochmia phaeton is found in wet savanna in tropical northern Australia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia. This one was photographed at Fogg Dam in the Northern Territory. It is a male, busy gathering nesting material.

This beautiful bird makes me think of the American Cardinal which is common here in Virginia.
