Ellery Big Hole is the name of a waterhole not that far from Alice Springs. It's a popular wild swimming destination. This photo is taken from the path to the waterhole, which is just visible as lush vegetation mid-left.
The tree in the centre and those on the right are all Eucalyptus sp. Those on the left by the waterhole are Acacia sp I think. The small tree/shrub centre right might be an Acacia too. I'm not sure what species and I can't remember exactly what the vegetation was, sorry.

Are all these trees mostly eucalyptus?
Just had a look on Google earth... It looks like a desolate place!!!

It didn't strike me as desolate. It's a bit of an oasis though, and beautiful. There are way more desolate places in the area.
