Bush Fly Protection

This Canadian couple were taking no chances, at least on the top half, with the notorious bush flies, small black biting flies related to house flies that occur in their gazillions in the outback.

Are those an Australian garment?
And, if so, can you get leggings to match??

Tim: No, they were Canadian garments. You can get leggings. Apparently anglers use them a lot in Canada (think Scottish midges with added horseflies I believe). The reason I took the photo was because I'd never seen anything like them before. In Australia people will wear nets over their heads which hang from their hats and prevent the flies settling on your face -- they like your eyes, for the moisture. I've never seen anyone wearing anything more, and most people don't even bother with the hat net.

Can you eat or drink with them on? I remember a barbecue in the Yorkshire dales wearing a hat net and it was really strange. Tim says he would rather collect the corks to hang around his hat. Canada suddently doesn't sound so good, bt then I'm no fisherperson.

PG: No you have to lift the net to eat/drink. Canada has an extreme climate and an extraordinary range and population of biting flies.

Somewhere there's a photo of me at King's Canyon in a hat with a veil, like an Edwardian lady motorist.

Auty: I really think you should dig it out and post it on your blog! Go on!!
