The Woodpecker's Hole

or is it?
This tree is on the plan d'eau. I am not sure how long for this world it is...

I think something larger... and four-footed....
has been scrabbling at the rotten wood...
trying to get at grubs...
it is what rotten-hearted willows are for!
And the willow will survive...
if it can keep its balance in a strong wind....
if not, it will contuinue growing and put down roots whereever the top lands...
unless, of course, someone removes it for "Elf & Safe-T" reasons...
or to be "tidy"!!

Nice spot... judging by the destruction... I'd hazard a guess at a badger.

Or else...
there is a little seen variety of woodpecker...
that resembles a penguin?

I reckon a coypu or that European type beaver Castor something or other creature that lives hereabouts....
