A Classic Paris Scene

A classic view of central Paris, taken from the Tuileries gardens, looking past the Luxor obelisk (one of three known as Cleopatra's Needles, in Paris, London and New York) in Place de la Concorde, down the sweep of the Champs-Elysées and through the Arc de Triomphe to la Grande Arche in la Défense beyond.

Have you ever seen the view in the other direction - from La Defense? Haussmann's brief - uninterrupted artillery sightlines down those sweeping boulevards! Pollygarter

PG: no, I've never made it to La Défense.

I love the gilded top to the Obelix... though, like Richloo's new copper guttering... it wouldn't last two seconds in the UK.

Tim:I imagine it's paper thin -- would it be worth someone climbing up and scraping it off? The NT routinely gilded wrought iron and I don't ever remember any being stolen.

Sorry - too many uncorrected typos!

Good shot.

A number of years ago (about 15) you could go to a viewing room at the top of the Grande Arche in la Defense. We saw an exhibition on the rebuilding of Berlin. La Defense is worth a quick metro ride.
