This year at the 8th of May Peace in Europe commemoration parade in Preuilly there were a pair of innovations, both much welcomed. The first was the presence of the School of Music drummers, who tapped us from the Mairie to the Memorial, and the second was a police presence controlling traffic, as well as the ceremonial delegation.
Another rarity was the weather - positively hot.
We were joined at the march by Sam and Ann. Sam was wearing his regemental tie, beret and medals, which attracted much attention. The locals always welcome the attendance of newcomers to the ceremony, doubley so if they are ex-servicemen.
If you are in France on May 8th, try to sttend the local ceremony if at all possible. Your presence will be noted and appreciated.
