Above is Chédigny, below Montrésor, still looking good in the early October sun. Both of these villages are picturesque enough to want to visit at any time of the year.
Last June, after having that superb lunch at the restaurant Agnès Sorel at Génillé, Ken, Walt and I drove through Chédigny, just before or just after [can't recall] the Festival of Roses. All the rose bushes were in full bloom and it was a gorgeous sight. Something to remember.
Chédigny, in my opinion, is at the top in the Plus Beaux Villages de France.
Carolyn, Since it was the first time I had been to Chédigny, I had no idea it wasn't a PBV, as you say. On the other hand, how can a village be a jardin? So I suggest we call Chédigny le plus beau village fleuri du monde entier, and beyond. How's that?
chm, you have expressed it perfectly. Cole Porter could put Chédigny in his song. "You're the top, you're a rose of Chédigny, you're the top, you're da dum da dum dee" (or similar words).
That photo of the house across the road from the church in Montrésor really is beautiful. There was an interesting show about Montrésor in the TV series Villages de France on Arte today. It will be repeated in a couple of days.

chm, I so agree with you. It's the top. All the other villages in France should just give up.
I choose to believe that Chedigny is where I will go when I die. I would be happy to think I could become rose fertilizer.
Chedigny actually isn't a PBV, and why not? It is, however, a Plus Beau Jardin.
Carolyn,

chm: Chédigny is officially designated a jardin rémarquable. It is the only village to win this classification.
