The quay on the Charente.
Saint Savinien-sur-Charente is an attractive town situated in the old province of Saintonge in the south-west of France. It's origins are Roman, and life there is focused on the various waterways in the area. If you are heading off to the Atlantic coast on your holidays you will most likely go through Saint Savinien, just as we did.

It is one of three main ports on the River Charente, between Saintes upstream and Tonnay-Charente downstream. Goods were transported up and down the river until the 1930s, but now the quay is full of pleasure boats.

Looks like a charming spot. Were you on a terrace with flower filled planters? Perfect foreground for the shots.
No, I was standing on the bridge over the Charente -- which in typical French municipal fashion is lined with beautiful annual flower filled planters.
