Heath Fritillary Butterfly

This is a series of photos I took in May 2013. I'm republishing them today because it's a species we could be seeing in the Touraine Loire Valley now we are allowed out and about a bit more with the relaxation of the Covid19 lockdown.

I notice on your LVN site, you indicate that they "overwinter as a caterpillar." Are there butterflies which don't?

Butterflies can overwinter at any stage of the game -- egg, caterpillar, or adult, depending on species.

Stunning photos, I should add, as usual.

Thank you. This was a fairly obliging subject I seem to remember.
