Walking Around Etableau

Simon and I joined the Phoenix en Claise walking group at Etableau and we did 5 kilometres on Monday 24 April.

Mountain Cinquefoil Potentilla montana (Fr. Potentille brillante). This was a new species for me, and it is rare enough to be a species whose presence determines a Zone naturelle d'intéret écologique, faunistique et floristique (ZNIEFF) may be declared.

In my yard here in the U.S., what I think was Potentilla Indica was growing profusely. First time I saw their fruits I thought they were fraises des bois? I was badly disappointed! They are called mock strawberry; I didn’t know that at the time!

chm: yes I got all excited in the orchard, then realised the plant was Barren Strawberry Potentilla sterilis.
