The Gloomy Octopus.

Otherwise known as the Common Sydney Octopus (Octopus tetricus), this small specimen was photographed off the same jetty where we saw the Toadfish and the Porcupine Fish. It's a small one - probably 50 cm or so across. Fully grown they can reach two metres.

I must admit I was surprised to see an octopus so close to the surface - the water was less than a metre deep.

(I assume it's a gloomy octopus - these are the best photos we managed.)
