An Autumn Walk From Paulmy

On 8 October the walking club did a 10 kilometre circuit from Paulmy. Here are some pictures from that walk.

Terrier hunting voles (spot the vole bottom right).

This is one of Jane's small terrier type dogs. It leapt into the ditch and a bank vole simultaneously leapt out. It was like a circus act. The dog then proceeded to look everywhere except at my feet, where the vole was cowering.

Dominique called me over to make a short detour to have a look at this house in Ferrière-Larçon. The owner makes charming rustic bird nest boxes out of found wood.

A notice forbidding shooting in the Saint Mande valley, due to the number of people, including children, who use the public right of way, and the valley's status as a 'sensitive natural space'. Neither Joël nor I had ever seen anything like this before and were intrigued and impressed.

It was along the trail between Paulmy and Ferrière Larçon that Chris and Gail's dog got caught in an illegal home made snare in the wood to the side of the track. It was a horrible experience for them and I find it shocking that animals are still trapped like that. The thought of wild animals being caught by the leg and left to die in pain and terror is just awful.

Interesting new banner? The roof of the abbey's bell tower is ridiculously high.

Lovely.... especially the first picture!

I totally agree, Jean.

I remember being told about that at the time it happened. I hope they told Gérard Hénault about it. He would have been furious.

Yes everyone is very sniffy about the 19C 'improvements' to the belltower.

My thoughts exactly.

Is this another church in the banner just above the i?

That belfry is on the town hall, but the bell came from Notre-Dame des Echelles, which you can see above the 'a' in Days. We discovered the only known image of the bell when it was still on Notre-Dame des Echelles a few years ago. A bit of a milestone event for the blog.

Thank you. Yes, I remember you talking about N-D des Échelles.
