It may have been a bleak 2C outdoors last Wednesday, but we went to the market in Loches anyway. Some of the stalls were absent, probably figuring that so few customers would come it wasn't worth their while to be there.
Only two hardy stalls set up and no need to wait to be served. Normally there would be three times the number of stalls in this little square. |
The florist had these hardy hellebores and santolinas on display outside. |
Nobody outside at the most popular market café. |
The big greengrocer stalls have turned up because people will buy staples, but the fancy cakes and soaps aren't there. |
The new Italian grocers, in what was a shoe store, on the corner. |

Glad to see some Christmas decorations still up... Good old Loches not letting the French custom slip by...
You’re right, the market is deserted because of the cold. Sorry for the merchants who have to brave the cold.
A question, is Australia Celsius or Fahrenheit?
These blooming hellebores aka roses de Noël in French are beautiful.
Colin and Elizabeth: LOL. I hadn't even noticed.
chm: Celsius.
