Heath Spotted Orchid

Heath Spotted Orchid Dactylorhiza maculata, Hautes Pyrenees, France. Photo by Loire Valley Time Travel.

The Heath Spotted Orchid Dactylorhiza maculata (Fr. Orchis tacheté), with its brown spotted leaves and rose pink flowers, occurs all over Europe, found in damp open areas. I photographed this one in a trackside ditch near Cauterets in the Hautes Pyrenees, in July 2021.

Love seeing all your photos…! By the way, I see in your About Us info, that the population of Preuilly-sur-Claise is about 1000, do you any way of finding out what it was in 1952…? Just curious…! Hope you are both doing well…how is house coming along…? Gabby will be moving from NY to Boston the end of this month. She was hired by a Patent Law Firm, working from home since last fall. Think about you a lot with such fond memories of our visit…!

Sally: The population of Preuilly at the time of the census of 1954 was 1546. Nothing happening at the house at present. Still waiting for our windows, which are supposed to arrive in April. I would guess that Gabby will like Boston and congratulations to her on the new job. We think of you often, especially when we pass Humeau.
