The rivers are running high and fast in the Loire Valley at the moment, although there is no real flooding here. I took pictures at both Amboise and Chenonceau recently.

The water is lapping over the middle level of the quay at the Chateau of Chenonceau. Nowhere near the highest I have seen, which covered the whole quay, in June 2016.

You don't really want much more water than this rushing under your Renaissance chateau. Luckily the needle weir downstream is open at this time of year and not backing water up.

The Loire seen from the Chateau Royal ramparts. All the gravel banks are under water.

Is this the island where the Leonardo da Vinci’s statue is located?
chm: yes, to the right of the bridge, out of shot. And of course, it wasn't originally a statue of Leonardo. It was meant to be a River God, representing the Loire. But somehow it's morphed in the public consciousness into Leonardo, and is now officially known as a statue of Leonardo.
Thank you, Susan, for this explanation. I found strange that Leonardo would be pictured that way. But for a river god it is the perfect pose.
