You've missed them now, but I was lucky enough to see the Christmas decorations in the Chateau of Chenonceau twice. Here are some of the photos I took.
In Catherine de Medici's private apartments. |
The so-called Diane de Poitiers bedroom. The big white rectangular object on the far right is made of cotton bolls. |
The Long Gallery. The 'snow' on the floor had been trodden all over the Chateau by Thursday. I don't know what it was made of, but hopefully something conservation friendly. |
The entry hall. |
Wreaths at the top of the stairs in the attic. |
Orchids in test tubes dangling in the Five Queens Bedroom. |
The fireplace in the prints and drawings room. |
The mantlepiece in the prints and drawings room. |
The heavily decorated tree at the end of the museum gallery. |
A confection in powder pink in the 'music' room. |
Crowds being held back until their entry time comes up. This was at 4 pm on Thursday 30 December. |

I have a very mundane question, where do they store all these decorations? In empty rooms of the chateau? In the basement?
thanks for sharing these. I doubt I'll ever be there during Xmas so a treat to see.
chm: In one of the outbuildings I assume. The florists work from a cottage in the middle of the farmyard.
melinda: Any time of year is fine to visit. The floral displays are always spectacular.
