A couple of weeks ago I mentioned in a comment that overtaking a roadtrain takes an inordinate amount of road - then I realised that some readers might not know what I was talking about.
Here are some photos of roadtrains. They can be up to 53.5 metres (175 ft 6 in) long, and they travel at close to the speed limit. That means that to overtake them on a normal Australian highway (one lane each way) you would really need over the horizon radar - assuming the road is wide enough to get past, which it rarely is.
The following pic is a roadtrain we later passed (having ourselves stopped for a meal) parked by the side of the road with burning brake blocks.
