Fete de la Nature et des Saveurs Automnale

Over the weekend I participated in the Fete de la Nature et des Saveurs Automnale. It was the brainchild of my friend Didier Raas and was organised largely by him, in partnership with Jacky Perivier, the mayor of Yzeures sur Creuse, the Touraine Horticultural Society (SHOT), the Croqueuers de pommes and the Association de botanique et de mycologie de Saint Maure de Touraine (Botamyco37). I got to interact with lots of visitors to the fete, and got interviewed for the local newspaper.

The Horticultural Society of Touraine's stand. Their leaflets offer a range of excellent advice about gardening in the Touraine.

Who knew that Spike Milligan was alive and well, living in the Touraine and an expert on apples? Or it could be Jean-Pierre and a couple of Gérards, all delighted to help you with your apple questions.

This platter of lollies was leftover from an October Rose vin d'honneur that was cancelled, so waste not want not, and it was served at the Fete's low key opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony with Jacky giving a speech. Also present the local member of parliament, who insisted on being addressed as Vincent, and Jules, a politician en herbe as they say in French.

All the trees in the centre of Yzeures sur Creuse are wrapped in pink agricultural plastic. This can be bought for wrapping hay bales, and a percentage of the price goes to breast cancer research.
