Poor Pear Crop

It isn't just us apparently. Everywhere in France the pear crop has been poor this year. Growers are reporting a yield that is 30% down on last year. We didn't get any at all! Luckily, our local organic commercial orchard had better luck, and currently has beautiful pears in stock. The crop losses are due to a cold wet spell in the spring, so pollination and fruit formation was poor.

We had a good crop in the frozen north.

Our lonely pear tree died a year or two ago. No telling why.

Bad weather at a crucial time for my apple tree meant only three fruits and they never were eatable either. (NW UK)
