Primulas Mean Spring

Primroses on the roadside.

Every year we post a photo of the wild Cowslips Primula veris (Fr. Coucou) that grow on the north facing roadside banks and other cool damp places.

This year the wild Primroses P. vulgaris (Fr. Primevère acaule) are flowering simultaneously with the Cowslips, which doesn't always happen. They don't grow in the same places, so clearly have different habitat preferences.

These were all photographed on 4 March between Preuilly sur Claise and Le Petit Pressigny.

The primroses are out in our garden but the cowslips have yet to open.
