Bottle Munching at Auchan

When we were in Tours last month (that makes it last year already - blimey!) we saw this recycling innovation outside the Auchan centre in Chambray les Tours.

You feed your plastic bottles in to the machine (after having removed the cap and putting it in the "bouchon" hole) one at a time, and in return you get a voucher worth one cent for each bottle.

It's not a lot of money, but if it encourages people to recycle rather than send bottles to landfill it can only be a good thing.

Nice... smart idea... a lot of the Belgian supermarkets had these years ago, but tied up to the bottle deposit scheme of between 7 and 25 cents depending on the bottle type.... so the voucher was worth quite a lot towards your shopping... even as a visitor for a long weekend, we'd rack up around 5€.... and when we had a 2CV camp near Rochefort in the south, we coined around 20€.... and it will also make kids collect bottles like I used to with the Corona bottles as I grew up!!
But I would've collected 1€20'ish the other day from one of these when I did the post Christmas monthly bottle run, so still worthwhile.
I wonder if there's one at Chatellerault? I could combine the bottle run with the monthly shop rather than a village boulangerie visit!
