This Crimson Rosella Platycercus elegans is lurking about in the Botanic Gardens in Canberra. They are commonly found in gardens, as well as old wet forests, in eastern and south-eastern Australia. The species is one of many brought back by Sir Joseph Banks during the expedition to Australia led by Captain James Cook. They eat seeds and fruit, and nest in tree hollows. Goshawks and falcons will predate them, as will feral cats and introduced foxes.
