Yesterday was the 20th anniversary of our first blog post.
The blog started as an open letter to our friends and families, partly to counter accusations of "you didn't tell us that". At first we posted whenever we had something we needed to say and had time to write about it, which meant we wrote on 2 January 2007 about the fact we had bought this house - an event which happened on 21 November 2006. On 8 February 2008 we started posting daily at 9.00am. More recently we stopped posting at the weekend, because even scintillating writers like us need a rest.
Two weeks ago we also missed the 20th anniversary of signing to buy this house. Our only excuse is that the recent string of canicule (5 so far this year) have turned our brains to mush.
We recently lost probably our most avid reader, which caused us to question whether we would continue.
As you can see, we have decided we will. We have met many interesting people through the blog, and it would be a pity if we lost that.
I don't know if we have another 10 years of blogging in us, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

We’re sorry to hear you lost your oldest reader, but can we nominate ourselves as approximately readers #2 and #3? We started following you in 2007, I think, and you weren’t very far along with the blog at that point and I was able to read all the way back to the beginning. The photo of Susan reading in the tent, indoors, let me know you were our kind of people, and we’ve been fascinated every since.
Please keep going. Your blog is the second thing I look at online every day, after email. I had to get used to a dull weekend without your posts, but I understand you can’t scintillate in print on a daily basis. Though I’m sure you both do in person.
It’s been delightful to meet you in person and I hope we can do it again.

I can’t remember exactly when I found this blog. It was probably just after Williams vs Bartoli at Wimbledon which I listened to while on holiday near Le Guerche. Lovely meal at Jackie Dallais’ place was a highlight of a wonderful stay. I thought the area was special and did some searching and found you. There is something a bit off about reading the doings of people you will never meet but I have found your postings enjoyable and informative. You live authentically and write with soul and passion for your subjects. I applaud your determination and hope to read you until you say enough, we’re done. Congratulations on this blogging milestone.
