It looks like we are at Peak Poppy at the moment. I photographed these near Bléré on Thursday 1 June. These are wild Field Poppies Papaver rhoeas (Fr. Coquelicot) in a crop of flax. Poppies like these are not the species that provides the poppy seeds for your bread roll, nor are they the source of opium. They are the poppies that appeared in droves on the battlefields of Flanders.
