On Friday I was at the Donjon de Loches at closing time and was lucky enough to run into one of the staff who was going around locking everything up. She was carrying a bunch of enormous keys and I asked her when they dated from. I expected the answer to be they were all 19th century, and indeed most of them were. But one of them turned out to be 17th century, from the time of Louis XIII (he's the king in the Three Musketeers stories). It's the one at the front on the bunch she's holding in her left hand.
