Town Hall Clock Mechanism

Photographed by Susan from Loire Valley Time Travel. https://tourtheloire.com
This lovely robust clock mechanism sits on display in reception at Le Grand Pressigny Town Hall. According to the young woman working there it is the original mechanism from the front of the building.

But this, of course is the back view!
I love this thing... robust... ain't it the word!!

Is it the back? That hadn't occurred to me. Don't know much about clocks, despite getting to hang out with the curator of clocks at Greenwich in a former life. It's a super piece of machinery anyway.

Yes, the little clock is the opposite end of the main shaft system... and the winder is just beneath it.
It echos what the main hands are doing... and somewhere amongst all those cogs is the ontrol [or controls?]for altering the position of the hands... with the little clock showing what the outside beastie is doing, you don't have to have someone outside yelling "Un peu plus... non... un petit peu moins... parfait!!"

Once you pointed it out I realised that must be how it worked with the small clock face.
