I've never quite got over discovering that an Australian binman can be known as a "garbo". But if that's your job, I can understand that you might "vant to be alone."
Auty: LOL. I nearly always refer to the binmen as garbos. I don't use ambos though. That term has developed since we left Australia.
*LOL*... binmen?? That is a hoot to me, Ms American :) Never heard that before. We just call them "garbage men" or, more in the commercial sense, "trash haulers".
Judy: Even funnier is dustmen. In the UK I always said garbage men because binmen and dustmen sounded so quaint. Garbage men was understood, but 'trash' is restricted to American English.
