Life in Australia

Forty six years ago, my parents migrated from England to Australia. I am sure this film had a lot to do with it.

The film was made in 1966, just as my parents were deciding to make the big change, and looking at the film I can see exactly why any sane person would take the steps they did. I am sure they must have seen this film, it's the sort of thing Australia House would have sat all prospective immigrants down to watch.

wonder what impelled people to go to Canada? It sure wasn't the beaches. or the weather. or the infrastructure.

So different from my town in Australia in 1966. It's hard to imagine how so much hustle and bustle would have been attractive, but I guess the ever-present sun would have drawn a lot of people.

Fraussie: Simon's parents were Londoners, from the Eastend, so wouldn't have been fazed. It all looks so clean and wholesome, unlike London at the time. The thing that really amazed me was how many boats were out on the harbour and how many surfers there were lining up on the waves. You'd be hard pressed to get half those numbers these days -- everyone stays indoors with their aircon.
