Good Value in Paris, Part 4

We have just spent a couple of days in Paris, visiting Retromobile, doing some shopping, visiting museums.

Once again we stayed at Laumiere. They are being redecorated at the moment, so instead of the cheapest room overlooking the street (which we always ask for) we were given a large room overlooking the garden - remarkably quiet - and at the same rate we would have normally paid.

On our way back we happened across the Creperie de Pontivy near Gare Montparnasse. Needing lunch we stopped for the full on crepe experience: a "classic" gallette (cheese, ham, egg) and a classic crepe (with home made salty butter caramel), served with a kir Bretagne (cassis and cider) and a bowl of cider. Good value for €16.90, with friendly staff and all the better for being located where we didn't expect to find the quality/price criterion met.

Laumiere looks pretty decent and you are close to the Marche aux Puces at Clignancourt, a favorite of mine.

The hotel we alwyas used to stay at, Hotel d'Albe has been "discovered" and prices are way up. Small rooms, but private baths and great locationhttp://www.albe-paris-hotel.com/

I think you can find simple, inexpensive restaurants and cafés in nearly all French neighborhoods.

Ken: You know that and we know that, but hundreds of travellers don't seem to have figured it out and are convinced that Paris is terribly expensive.

I agree, there is simple and inexpensive in Paris and across France. Thing is, I find mediocrity on the rise...either I am getting demanding and cantankerous, or restaurateurs are using sub-par ingredients to cut costs far too often. Hmm, probably both.
