A New Path

In the 1880s a railway line was built from Port des Piles to le Blanc, which passed through Preuilly. Seventy years later it closed to passengers, then in the early years of this century it closed to freight as well. There have been various half projects to reopen the line, including as a tourist railway, but the front-runner was always as a voie-verte - a cycle path/walking track.

The work taking up the lines started in 2017 and we wrote about the project in April 2019 . Now it's almost finished, and due to be fully opened next month. It will be a great boon to residents and visitors.

We have been uysing it unofficially for a while, as have many people. Here's just a glimpse.
