Today is Preuilly-sur-Claise's brocante. Brocantes are a combination village fete, car boot sale, and market. If you're into that kind of thing, brocantes are brilliant and you travel miles every weekend. If not it's your duty to support your local brocante, sample a local fare or two, say bonjour to everything you meet, then dive off home to the (hopefully) cool of your house.
Susan is one of those kinds of people, and I'm ambivalent.
Our first Preuilly sur Claise brocante was 18 years ago - except we missed it because we arrived late in town, avoided "whatever is going on over there" and picnicked on the opposite side of the river. Two days later we signed the compromis de vente on our house.
