Unblogged 2023 - Gambrinus

When we were in Belgium we went to Leuven with Lisa. We had lunch at Gambrinus, a bar restaurant in the Grote Markt.

It's very olde worlde, with wood panelling, copper chandeliers, and faded murals. What sets it apart are Bavarian wall paintings and the inscription Bürgerliches Brauhaus München. The original owners were granted exclusive rights to sell Munich beer, which saved the cafe during the destruction of Leuven by the Germans in 1914. In 1932, the owners relocated to the main square, reconstructing the old interior.

Our lunch was stoomp and sausage, a warming and filling meal on a cold winter's day.
