This photo was taken by us from the Eiffel Tower in September 2002. It shows the Musée du Quai Branly -- Jacques Chirac [link] being constructed. The museum houses a collection of ethnographic objects, documents and photographs from indigenous cultures around the world. It is the newest major museum in Paris and opened in 2006. Most of the collection of the Musée de l'Homme at Trocadero has been transferred here, as have the research and laboratory facilities. The new museum also houses the collection of the now closed National Museum of the Arts of Africa and Oceania, plus objects that have been specifically acquired for the Quai Branly. Of course, being an ethnography museum, it has already seen controversy, with campaigns to return cultural heritage to their countries of origin.
The museum is a complex of four buildings set in a garden. The building that houses workshops and the library has been decorated by indigenous Australian artists. We've never been there, and it does not seem to be a museum that many people love.

I visited this museum a few years ago, very interesting. They had a exhibition of "Tiki" themed U.S. restaurants, motels, etc., which was very familiar to me, as I lived in southern California during this time and went to some of those venues!
