Australia or France?

Detail of interior, Glengallan Homestead, Queensland, Australia. Photo by Loire Valley Time Travel.
This interior could be an old house in France, with its limestone, laths, plaster and pink, but it is actually a detail from Glengallan Homestead in south-east Queensland, Australia.

It is interesting.... when I saw the bath and its panelling, I thought "which chateau is that?".... until I read further.
Now this... could/would there have been a French influence somewhere?

Only in terms of the interior fashion magazines of the day. The builders were British.

There were fashion mags when the place was built.... articles perhaps... the builders were Australians I presume, or did they get people in?
After all, fashion and interior decoration are as old as the hills.... and the builders and decorators, presumably, would have been working to drawings/instructions?

The builder lived in the nearest proper town. He was English born, like everyone else involved (except the odd Scot). Nobody identified as Australians at this point, and Australia did not exist as an independent nation. The owners undoubtedly controlled the aesthetics with letters, instructions and site visits. I don't think there was an architect.
