Fiddler Beetle

This large (2cm) and attractive Fiddler Beetle Eupoecila australasiae is not uncommon. They occur in eastern Australia and are named for the yellowy lime green pattern like a violin on their upper side. It is a member of the scarab family, in the flower chafer sub-family, Cetoniinae, so they are related to the metallic green Rose Chafers we get here in France. They fly strongly, seeking nectar rich flowers in heathland, eucalypt woodland and even gardens.
