Some Days are Grey

Yesterday was just one of those days that never looked like it really got going: it started misty and grey, at lunchtime it was misty and grey, and at sunset (about 6.00pm) it was... well, no different really.

It's at times like these that it is worth remembering that in a month's time the days will start getting longer, and we will be on the long path to spring again. To help remind us of this we have plants like Camelia bushes, which develop their buds late in summer, and hold the promise of next years colour all through the grey days.

And anyway - today looks like will have some sunshine.

Maybe I am a cup half full kind of guy after all.

I adore camellias....didn't
realize they could be grown
that far north in France, You
must have them in a sheltered
spot. If you have a freeze, do
you have to cover them? Our
summers in Texas are just too
hot for them, unfortunately.
Helpful that they like growing
in containers too.

Sheila: The camellia came from London with us and loves it here. It now lives at the back of the graineterie, which is in the shade all the time. It likes that better than one of the big window niches at the front, which was too hot for it and it got covered in powdered lime from the stones all the time.

I actually felt my spirits lift as I read your post (and they weren't particularly down to start with!)
Here in East Sussex we also have buds on the camellias and, yesterday, I noticed the first daffodil leaf just poking above ground. It is very frosty here this morning but also sunny. Thank you, Simon, for having your glass more than half full! Angela

We have two camellias planted on the east side of our house. They are under the balcony and therefore further protected from the cold. Right now, they are covered in buds.
