This photo was taken almost 20 years ago, driving through the Pilliga Scrub between Narrabri and Coonabarrabran. A fire had been through the area about 12 months before which is why the regrowth on the trees is the way it is. I dislike the Pilliga, the first time I drove through it was at midnight, at the height of the 1986 drought, and there were terrifying numbers of large kangaroos jumping in front of the car. The second time I drove it was in daylight and I discovered that it is actually really very boring - the trees go on forever and all look the same.
Susan, on the other hand, finds it interesting.

Colin - not advisable, the road really isn't as smooth as it looks, and the 110km/h speed limit is fanatically policed. And roadtrains taking up the full width can't be argued with
Jean I don't think so, it looks too small. The smallest too you'd see around there would be at least 4' tall
CHM. Susan says mainly mixed eucalypts, they all look the same because it's regrowth. Although I always suspected it was a million square miles of clones
