On this day in 1788 Captain Arthur Phillip, commander of the First Fleet to Australia and 1st Govenor of New South Wales, landed at Sydney Cove and decided that it was the place where his new convict colony should be established.

It is an interesting date to chose as Australia's National Day, being neither the date of the arrival of the first fleet in Australia (18 January 1788) nor the day the first colony was proclaimed (7 February 1788). It has recently beome somewhat controversial, being marked by the rabid flag kissing right as a kind of "my country, right or wrong" booze up (and fight) day, and as "Invasion Day" by the descendents of the original Australians. No. Big Berta's bottom element has died so I only have the mini oven. I'd have to make Anzac's one at a time in it because they spread so much. I will be making vanilla muffins however, but nothing to do with Australia Day.

Vanilla muffins sound good though!
Berta can probably be fixed. I've been in touch with Bertazzoni in Italy and they want us to pull her out, dismantle the back and send photos so they know which parts to send us. It's one of those pain in the neck jobs that is really easy to put off.
