The shape and form of fungi never cease to amaze me. Last week in France, we were given the first truffles of the season by some local friends. They were prised from the roots of an oak adjacent to a lake and resemble walnuts. The unseasonal wet and cold August in our corner of France have been catalysts for an early autumn and some preliminary truffle hunting!
I didn't recognise the name, but I recognised him from your photos. I belong to the Association de botanique et de mycologie de Ste Maure de Touraine and he came on one of our outings last year (or maybe the year before). I didn't know who he was and wasn't introduced to him, but he clearly knew his stuff. Several of the members of our Association know their stuff too. I've written several blog posts about going on fungi forays.
