These shutters belong to a house that has not been lived in for the last year or so. Just recently the owner has been back to do some maintenance and the Boston Ivy has been ruthlessly pulled away from the building, leaving a delicate tracery of marks where sticky pads of calcium carbonate produced by the plant to attach itself to the wall have been.

What a great photo. The faded blue of the shutters is the perfect background. Judging by the vigor of the vine still left, the battle is far from won, of course.
In Virginia, I have two kinds of vine, the Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia), necessarily, and what looks like Porcelain Berry Vine (Ampelopsis glandulosa). These two, I guess, are first cousin.
Yes, I imagine the vine is just biding its time.
Boston Ivy is closely related to Virginia Creeper as they are both Parthenocissus and in the same family as grape vines. I've never heard of your other vine, but the name Ampelopsis suggests it is either related or looks very much like other Vitaceae (grape vine family).
In northern France, we had neighbors whose house was covered with some kind of Ampelopsis; perhaps Ampelopsis cordata.
