Above, one of two pubs in the small Australian town I grew up in. Referred to locally as The Brick, the Pittsworth Hotel Motel has 9 rooms for accommodation, serves lunch (12 - 2 pm) and dinner (6 - 8 pm) daily and has a lounge and a sports bar with betting shop open. It has live music or karaoke on Friday evenings, when it stays open until 1am. It also operates a wine and liquor store (known in Australia as a drive-in bottle shop). The clientele is primarily working men, but on the weekends families as well.
Below, L'Esperance has 4 rooms for accommodation, serves a daily changing weekday lunch (12 - 2 pm) set menu and has a bar which is open all day. It is the lunch destination of choice for the local working men, cheap and cheerful.

"La Sans Espérance" would do better as a name for that one...
it has been "A Vendre" for over twelve years....

nor could any mortal soul hazard a guess as to what it would cost to get it going...
at least "L'Union" in Paulmy has a wonderful creeper slowly engulfing it and the tired paintwork.

Tim. Lots of places in Australia are Hotel/Motels. The hotel applies to the bar/pub, the motel to the accommodation. All it means is that you can park directly in front of the rooms and that each room has a separate external door, rather than having to enter the hotel and navigate corridors
Ie: a motel.... you don't need the hotel bit...

But a "motel" is just rooms - no restaurant, no bar, sometimes they don't even do breakfast. There are plenty of motels around (like here. ), This place is a hotel - ie a pub/bar restaurant - and a motel.
Aha... I see what you mean... I'm used to UK rural motels...
tend to be a converted set of outbuildings behind the pub...
with a car parking space in front of each!
Especially in East Angular and Lincolnshire...
pub provides booze and breakfast...
evening meal if you get there soon enough.
That motel you've linked to looks totally un-inviting...

I actually chose the motel in Mitchell because it is possibly the motel I have stayed at most. As a motel it is excellent, although it does rather have the issue of the hot water (direct from the bore) coming out of the cold tap, whilst the cold water (which has been allowed to cool in the turned off hot water tank) comes out of the hot tap. For half the year anyway....
So I'd not be worried about taking a shower... just very confumbled!
