Like the more famous Todd River which runs through Alice Springs, this river at nearby Simpsons Gap is ephemeral. On the rare and brief occasions when it does flow it is dangerous, rising to fill within minutes and carrying a heavy silt load and much swirling debris.

Tim: No but you can always hope for barramundi in the big permanent pools.
Reminds me of the washes in Southern California.
chm: yes I can imagine that the countryside is quite similar.
